Share Article

You may be someone new to a particular Martial Arts, ready to begin, or is already a practitioner but feel that you have not been putting in as much as you should or could to get the most out of your training. We understand you, and we have been there too. Hence, we have compiled a list of actionable steps you can utilize to stay on course and be more discipline in your training:

  1. Set goals that are achievable
This can be a personal goal you set for each training session and have a time frame. First, decide how many training sessions you are able to attend in a week, or month. Discuss with your trainer or master to come up with the optimal outcome you want to achieve each month. The optimal outcome must include pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, even if a little and not be difficult to achieve.
  1. Schedule your week
Now that you have set goals on how many times a week you will be training, it is time to schedule your week so that you have a general idea and guide so that you will not fall off the wagon and know that your time is allocated for and any new appointment can be reschedule into empty time slots that remain. You can divide your scheduling by hour / two hour time slot, by day, by week, by month.
  1. Never quit mentality
Going into this, one should always have a never quit mentality. To obtain this mindset, you have to begin with knowing that everything is possible, the first steps are always difficult, stop comparing yourself to another, mistakes are learning opportunities, and always ask yourself “why?” when you feel like quitting. These steps will keep you out of a negative head-space and identify your shortcomings and move forward from there.
  1. Forge friendship and accountability partner
Thankfully, you are always almost never alone when training in martial arts. Within your martial arts community, it is always best to form new friendships and from there develop an accountability partner. This will keep both of you in check and more responsible staying on course for your training. The added bonus is that in a friendly rivalry, both you and your accountable partner may push each other to greater heights together.
